One Minute Power Tip:
PREVENTING HEARTBURN:
Don't overeat. Avoid tight clothing, especially waist-pinching belts. Stay upright for several hours after eating - don't eat just before bedtime or lie down for a nap right after a meal. If you frequently suffer form heartburn, avoid those foods you know you have a problem with.
Limit fat intake since fat slows the emptying of the stomach. Elevate the head of your bed by six inches or more. This may be the single most important mechanical alteration heartburn sufferers can make.
Healthy Recipe
GARLICKED HONEY
Ingredients: Garlic cloves & Honey
Peel garlic cloves and put them in a jar. Add honey, a little at a time over a couple of days until the jar is full. Set in a warm window for 2 weeks to a month or until the garlic has turned somewhat opaque and all the garlic flavor has been transferred to the honey.
This garlic honey is an excellent cough syrup. Just take a teaspoonful every couple of hours or whenever it seems necessary. You must remember though, that the honey has a lot of concentrated garlic power in it and one teaspoonful can represent many cloves of garlic. If you are giving this syrup to a child, you should dilute each spoonful with a bit of water.
Garlic honey also soothes a sore throat. As an application for acne or herpes it has no equal because it is both healing, soothing and slightly anesthetic. Some cooks like to baste their chicken with this garlic honey mixture.

Eating Right To Help Prevent Common Aging Diseases
As you age, food choices become important daily decisions that may affect the quality of the rest of your life. Seniors need fewer calories, and everything you eat should be based on weight gain and the nutrients that can maintain or boost your immune system and keep you healthy from the most common aging diseases that seniors can experience if they don’t follow these strategies.
Learning the best anti aging foods and aging nutrition tips can not only extend your life, but importantly, the quality of your life. Too much added weight and not enough vitamins and minerals can cause untold health problems.
Choose your foods to make sure you’re getting enough of the following vitamins and minerals:
• B-Vitamins – Seniors need to be sure they eat lots of foods with B-vitamins. Vitamin-B12 isn’t found in plants, but you can get it in your diet if you eat fortified breakfast cereals. Tuna, lean beef, chicken and eggs also provide vitamin-B12, but if you don’t eat enough of these foods, be sure to take a supplement.
Vitamin-B6 is also an important vitamin for seniors. B6 vitamins can be found in foods that provide protein such as pork, fish and chicken. Again, fortified cereals can be a great source of vitamin B-6. Bananas, spinach, wheat germ and bran are among other sources for vitamin B6.
• Vitamin-A – Cantaloupe, carrots, Brussels sprouts, peppers and most colorful plant products are rich in beta-carotene, which provides vitamin-A. Fish liver oil, eggs and fortified milk are also abundant in vitamin-A. If you don’t think you’re getting enough vitamin-A in your diet, talk to your doctor before taking a supplement as it can form toxic levels in your body.
• Folic Acid – A synthetic form of folate, folic acid can be found in foods such as fortified cereal, enriched breads and some grains. Foods containing folate are bananas, asparagus, turnip greens, spinach wheat germ and orange juice.
• Riboflavin – Milk, yogurt, eggs and whole grains are rich in riboflavin. Milk should be purchased in cardboard cartons rather than glass or plastic containers because it loses much of the vitamin from exposure to light. Other food sources high in riboflavin are asparagus, turkey, almonds and chicken thighs.
Some other vitamins that should be included in the foods seniors should be eating are vitamins C, D and E and choline. Eating a diet that’s balanced with these vitamins and minerals is best, but if it’s difficult for you to eat a balanced diet on a regular basis, talk to your doctor about supplements.
As you age, it’s important to fill up with foods that contain vitamins and minerals that will help us to maintain a healthy immune system and provide you with the best caloric intake to help prevent these aging diseases rather than foods rich in sugar, fat and not much else.
Eating right can help us age gracefully and live longer without having to deal with chronic debilitating aging diseases that are preventable.
Aging Gracefully – Exercise and Aging
There are many reasons that senior citizens should exercise on a regular basis, but the main one is that it helps to increase your overall health and ward off life-threatening aging diseases. Simply put – exercising helps us age more gracefully.
Almost everyone knows the sort of problems we face when aging – slower metabolism, bone loss and stiffness in joints, muscle loss, balance problems, less endurance and heart and lung problems.
We all want a quick fix to any aging diseases we may experience, such as injections and facelifts or a pill we can take to halt or reduce the aging process. But, in reality, regular exercise is the only thing we can do for ourselves that will increase our overall health and well-being.
Anti aging exercises can help us maintain the ability to do things we love and to accomplish everyday tasks that we need to do rather than depending on someone else. Even if you’re a very out of shape senior citizen, there are simple exercises you can do that will make you feel better and enjoy your life.
Stretching is simple to do (you can even stretch while sitting) and can make remarkable strides in improving your joints and muscles. You can find online stretching exercises, choose from the many television shows that promote exercising or get a book from the library or bookstore.
You’ll want to be sure to choose anti aging exercises that stretch your back, arms, calves, thighs, stomach and chest – but don’t overdo it. Stretch for 5 to 20 minutes per day or whatever you feel up to.
Any anti aging exercises and activity that increases your endurance is great for senior citizens to ward off those common aging diseases. Those exercises might include gardening, biking, swimming or simply walking the dog. Try to increase your breathing and heart rate, but don’t exercise so strenuously that you lose your ability to talk. Take it easy and you’ll benefit more than you realize.
Strength exercises are very important to engage in as you age. The more you can strengthen your muscles, the better able you’ll be to increase your metabolism (maintain a normal weight) and keep your blood sugar at normal levels. Strength exercises can be in the form of machines at a gym or fitness center – or, you can even use items around the house, such as books and cans of food.
Exercises designed to strengthen your back should be an important part of your exercise program. Back pain can be excruciating and life-changing and is common in senior citizens. Ask your doctor for a list of exercises you can do to strengthen back muscles or research on your own to find some that are right for you.
One of the worst aging diseases that can affect senior citizens is balance problems. Aging can cause loss of balance, but so can certain medications. There are exercises to specifically build your leg muscles and increase your perception of balance so that you’re less likely to fall.
Keep in mind that in the United States, hospitals admit over 400,000 people per year for broken hips – and most are senior citizens.
What Causes Aging Diseases like Balance Problems?
It’s scary to feel light-headed or like you’re spinning out of control and are going to fall – especially if you fear breaking a bone or losing consciousness. There are a number of medical issues that could cause aging balance problems, but luckily there are tests that can determine why you have this concern and ways to control it.
You may have a balance disorder if you feel like you’re moving even though you aren’t. It’s a sense of floating or spinning that makes it seem as if you’re going to fall.
Our sense of balance is controlled by a place in the inner ear called a labyrinth, connected to an elaborate structure called the vestibular system. The vestibular system is responsible for some of our sensory perceptions such as our eyes.
When this intricate system gets out of sync, a balance disorder may occur. It could be caused by a viral or bacterial ear infection, problems with blood circulation or a head injury.
Various medications can also cause dizziness and aging can also cause aging diseases like balance problems. Balance problems can begin suddenly and there may not be a reason that you can pinpoint.
That’s why it’s important that you see your health care provider right away so that he can diagnose the problem and help restore your balance. Some types of balance disorders include:
• Vertigo – Vertigo may occur when you merely turn your head. That’s because part of your vestibular system, the cupula, doesn’t tilt as it should. This malady sometimes happens as one ages or the cause could be a head injury.
• Vestibular neuronitis – You may experience vertigo (dizziness when you turn your head) because of an inflammation of the vestibular nerve caused by a virus.
• MdDS (Mal de debarquement syndrome) – Sometimes simply called sea-sickness, MdDS affects some people on an ocean cruise. It causes nausea, feelings of rocking to and fro and can last a few hours, days or even months after returning to land.
• Leakage of inner fluid (Perilymph fistula) – You may experience balance problems if you have a leakage of inner ear fluid into the middle ear. Many situations can cause the disorder – change in atmospheric pressure, ear infection, head injury or ear surgery. Nausea and dizziness may occur.
• Upper respiratory infection (Labyrinthitis) – An infection of the inner ear that can cause dizziness or loss of balance.
These are some of the most common causes of balance problems, and if you’re experiencing some or all of these symptoms you should see your health care provider immediately before a fall occurs. As you can see from the above details, having balance problems does not necessarily fall in the category of aging diseases as it can be triggered by so many other causes.
If you see a general practitioner, he or she may want you to see an ENT doctor – a physician who specializes in disorders of the ear, nose and throat. Depending on your health status, the ENT doctor may order tests to better diagnose the cause of your balance problem.
Once diagnosed, your doctor may simply give you a prescription for medication or suggest ways to deal with chronic balance problems on a daily basis.

Natural Cures Health Tip:
STRESS AWAY FROM WORK
Anyone who's ever been stuck in a major traffic jam probably has seen the darker side of many people's personalities. It seems everyone is always in a hurry to either get, or go somewhere, and never seem to allow enough time for the everyday problems that are bound to crop up from time to time.
Banging on the steering wheel, laying on the horn, giving someone the "finger," or shooting a string of obscenities is only reacting to something that has already happened. You can't make the guy in front of you go any faster, or prevent someone from cutting you off. Accidents, road repairs, and just plain heavy traffic happens.
Learn to deal with it or don't drive. If you must, at least change your route from time to time. Always allow plenty of time, and try and make all trips as pleasant as possible. You may not realize it, but how you act on your way to work, or on your way home will have either a positive or negative impact. Accept the fact that it's something you just have to get through so you may as well try and make the best of it.
Most people are smart enough to know that they should set some time aside to take it easy. If you participate in some sports activity, remember you're doing it to relax! While many people naturally have their competitive nature come to the surface when engaging athletics, don't lose sight of the fact you're participating to have fun. Don't get bent out of shape if you don't always win or otherwise play up to par. The whole point is to enjoy yourself and forget your everyday worries. Treat it as a night out with the "boys," or gals and relax!
Families can be as source of support, an oasis away from the everyday pressures or sometimes it's only a place to grab a few hours sleep and get back in the rat race. Your children, spouse, family members, in-laws can be a source of irritation at times. If someone is constantly doing something that really "bugs you," tell the offending person or persons and see if things can be straightened out before things get out of control.
A man's home (a woman's too) should indeed be a place to rest and relax. Many people find it helpful unwind by sharing the day's events with their loved ones. It should not develop into a daily routine, nor should you give a detailed blow by blow recap of the day's events, but when things go wrong, who better to talk to than your family?
Holding things back, keeping it inside yourself, almost always does more harm than good and can affect not only your well-being but everyone else in your family as well. Talking things over is a great way to get rid of built up stress that many people overlook.
You should also be a good listener. Don't unload your problems and have no time for your mate's or children's problems. They may seem trivial to you, but they are real problems that need solving just like yours.
A great way to get rid of stress is, every once in a while, do something totally different and unexpected without any prior planning. Don't fall into a trap when you must do such and such thing a certain way, or at specific time or place. If you always put on a blue suit on Thursday, or go to an Italian restaurant on Tuesday, break the habit every once in a while. Even doing things you like can become stressful if you're stuck in the same old rut week after boring week.
Stress can best be managed by realizing what you can change about your life and knowing what you can't. Learn how to recognize the difference and you'll enjoy life more and be better able to deal the ups and downs that are part of everyone's life.

THE SENILITY PRAYER:
“Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.”
Reporters interviewing a 104-year-old woman: "And what do you think is the best thing about being 104?" the reporter asked. She simply replied, "No peer pressure."
The nice thing about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs .
I've sure gotten old! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation, hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can't remember if I'm 85 or 92. Have lost all my friends. But, thank God, I still have my Florida driver's license.
I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.
An elderly woman decided to prepare her will and told her preacher she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over Wal-Mart. "Wal-Mart?" the preacher exclaimed. "Why Wal-Mart?" "Then I'll be sure my daughters visit me twice a week."
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my memory's not as sharp as it used to be.
Know how to prevent sagging? Just eat till the wrinkles fill out.
It's scary when you start making the same noises as your coffeemaker.
These days about half the stuff in my shopping cart says, "For fast relief."
Remember: You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing.
