Acupressure: A Simple Art of Healthy Living by Self Care

by Dr Krishan Aggarwal
(Faridabad, Delhi NCR, India)

To remain healthy is easier and cheaper than taking treatment after falling sick. Through easy techniques of Acupressure, we can take care of ourselves and remain disease-free.

As per the definition of health, along with remaining disease-free, being active and energetic in body-mind is also necessary. On this basis, a person is healthy, who has no disease and who is socially, psychologically and spiritually well.

For a healthy life, it is necessary for all of us to know the art of healthy living. This lies in taking care of one's health through self-care.

People are now getting familiar with the eastern knowledge of acupressure technique, which was originated in India and flourished in China. It is an easy method to keep ourselves fit and to increase the immunity system of the body.

In simple words, Acupressure is an art to remain healthy by pressing on various acupressure points on our hands, feet arid other body parts with thumb or Jimmy (a rounded pencil like instrument, not sharp). With acupressure, toxins are eliminated from our body and the energy balance is restored resulting in good health.

For routine purpose, it's simple way is - first wash and wipe your hands , warm up your palms by rubbing them, then press both the palms by the thumb or Jimmy with bearable pressure, first on one palm by the thumb of the other hand and then on the other palm by the thumb of the first hand. Press every part of the whole palm for sometime and release.

Do it for one minute on each tender point. Press up to 3-finger width on both the wrists. In this way, related acupressure points of all body parts get pressed and our body-mind becomes healthy. Acupressure is to be done 2-3 times a day.

Following precautions are to be observed when taking acupressure session:

* Do not press up to an hour after having meal.
* Do not drink water or wash hands or take bath for 15-20 minutes after acupressure.
* Do not press some Acupressure points during pregnancy.

For special effects, do the acupressure on special acupressure points, two- three times a day as described below. These points are to be pressed on both sides of the body i.e. both hands, both feet and both arms or legs.

To remain healthy, to increase immune system and for pair relief, press on the following acupressure points:

The great philosopher Navalis has said that there is only one temple in this world and that is human body. There is no other place nobler than this pure form. Therefore, it is our duty to keep this pure human form healthy.

With the simple ways of good health as told and with the easy to follow acupressure technique discussed here, we shall be able to get health benefits in its true sense and that too without the side-effects of medicine.
