How Pilates Helps Those Growing Old

by Daisy Palmeston
(Naples, Florida, USA)

Back in the days, older people worried about exercising. Now, people are starting to grasp just how important it really is even as they age. Growing old is more than just retiring.

It’s also time to think about how to take better care of yourself and your body. Many fitness buffs have done several programs just to get that toned body. They endeavor to make the best of what they have so that they enjoy their strapping body for as long as possible.

In fact, everybody should get into a form of exercise so that you can put your health and body out of danger. To further reduce the risk of osteoporosis, fitness gurus advocate strength training so that you can improve the quality of the muscles that wrap around your bones.

Sometimes, too many health requirements confuse a person. You need to do so much of one thing that planning the regimen may be too daunting and tiring. Pilates may be the answer to all these. This form of exercise is now used by most individuals who are aware of their health. They swear to the benefits they’ve enjoyed once they decided to be serious about the workout.

Pilates has come a very long way. The exercise started as a regimen for dancers who want to keep their body in shape even after they’ve retired.

The others caught on and started joining in the classes. When it finally became popular, many were impressed at just how much stronger they became. It is easy to start.

All you need to do is a get a copy of a DVD. Do it regularly, around three or four times a week. Pilates exercises start and end in center of the body. It concentrates on the middle area where everything meets. This is considered to be your body’s main avenue.

The older generation has also enjoyed the paybacks of Pilates. The biggest one is having a well-built spine so that your balance is extremely good.

Osteoporosis can be prevented because it works on improving the posture of older people. This is a perfect form of exercise because it is low on impact when compared to the other types of workout.

This simply means that it won’t put severe stress on your joints when you go through the poses and movements. Unlike other exercises that focus on repetitions, Pilates works on breathing and quality-controlled movements.

Pilates puts emphasis on proper alignment because you become more aware of your body’s position all the time.

In addition to all these, Pilates works the core strength. It elongates and strengthens the muscles so that your joints become more flexible. Because it is not meant to tire out the individual, this is actually perfect for the older generation and for those who can’t over-exert themselves.

Aside from being unique, it was designed to make you stronger, more flexible, and less likely to fall because you teach your body to use every single muscle you have. Concentration and correct breathing are part of the regimen so that you are able to recruit the smaller, supportive muscles to help the bigger ones. People have felt a marked improvement in their abs, backs, and legs not very long after.

It works on the core center of your body makes this extremely effective because this is the place from which all motion originates. Every movement is stabilized because the muscles in charge of it have been primed.
