Yeast Infection
- Men Can Be Affected Just Like Women!

When it comes to sufferers of yeast infection, men have it no easier than women. Many people believe that men are immune to yeast infections, but this simply isn’t true.
Although it’s more common in women, men can experience many unpleasant symptoms as a result of the candida fungus.
No matter what gender you are, a number of risk factors make it more likely that yeast will overgrow, including use of antibiotics, diabetes, impaired immune systems and so on.
Sexually Transmitted Yeast Infection?
Men are often worried that if their partner has a yeast infection, they will develop one too. Although yeast infections in themselves are not sexually transmitted, the fungus that causes them to develop can be.
The candida albicans fungus can be passed on from one person to another through sexual contact, though it’s unlikely you’ll get a yeast infection just because your partner has one.
Sex can also cause irritation (known to be a risk factor in the development of yeast infections).
Who Is Affected?
When it comes to yeast infection, men who have a foreskin are more at risk due to the fact that it provides warmth and moisture: the perfect growing environment for yeast.
Symptoms Of A Male Yeast Infection
The symptoms of yeast infection in men differ slightly to the symptoms in women, and may include:
* Pain during urination,
* A red rash,
* Burning and itching at the tip of the penis,
* Red spots on the tip of the penis,
* Difficulty in pulling back the foreskin,
* Pain in the area,
* Discharge from the penis.
These symptoms are generally down to inflammation of the penis, a condition known as “balanitis”. Fortunately, treatment usually makes these symptoms disappear.
Treating A Yeast Infection: Men Can Make Use of Female Treatments
There are many yeast infection treatments available to buy in pharmacies and, though they may be marketed towards women, these are suitable for treating men as they work on the candida albicans fungus.
If you’ve never experienced yeast infection before it’s important to seek a professional diagnosis.
This is because the symptoms may be confused with other conditions which are important to rule out before you begin treatment.
If you or your partner are suffering from a yeast infection then it’s important to get treated as soon as possible, as you may re-infect each other.
It helps to stop all sexual contact until all of the symptoms of the infection have disappeared.
